After hearing the amazing story of Max Woolley, the man who survived more than 60 hours beneath Haiti earthquake rubble thanks to an iPhone app that taught him to treat his wounds and stave off shock, I have to admit--There truly is an app for that. And that. And that.
So as mobile strategy becomes an increasingly hotter topic in the association space, here's a quick list of nonprofit iPhone apps currently generating interest:
- The Extraordinaries' app transforms just a few minutes of spare time into community service, allowing users to complete micro-tasks for organizations, causes or people they're passionate about via mobile phone or Web browser.
- Real Time Congress provides real-time information about what's going on in Congress, helping associations communicate mission-critical information to their members.
- CauseWorld donates the sponsor-backed "karma points" people earn simply by walking into stores and checking in with their cell phone (no purchase is required at any store) to a host of charities.
- CharityFinder helps users to easily locate and support causes of their interest from a pool of more than 1,800 nonprofits.
- DoGood poses the question 'What if 300,000 people did the same act of kindness in a day?' by posting a daily "DoGood" for 365 days.
- SwebApps allows you to develop your own app and create a mobile forum to educate and engage your members--for just a $25 monthly hosting fee (the $400-$800 set-up fee has been waived for nonprofits till 7/31/2010).
So check 'em out, and tell us about the apps your association has found useful or inspiring!
